The Emergency Care and Recovery Center at the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvallur commenced operations in October 2023 with a capacity of 20 beds. This marks the establishment of the second ECRC within the Tiruvallur district, prompted by the significant demand for services among homeless individuals with mental health needs and by integrating it into the Public Health system. In response, with the backing of the District Health Department and the District Collectorate, The Banyan, in collaboration with the Menadora Foundation, is launching a new ECRC at the Tiruvallur Government Hospital and Medical College supported by Azim Premji Foundation. By enhancing the ECRC services, it becomes possible to offer a more comprehensive and timely response to the mental health challenges faced by homeless individuals, ultimately facilitating their rehabilitation and successful reintegration into the community.
